Spotted Whale Design is a small start-up agency located in Austin, Texas. We offer web, print, and brand identity services to small businesses across the United States and abroad. A full list of our services can be viewed on our services page.

We have expertise in web development with content management systems for small businesses, real estate companies, e-commerce shops, and software companies. We also offer ten years experience in graphic design, including print and web advertisements and package design, vector graphics, business card design, and brand identity. Our work is comparable to that of a well-established multi-person agency, at a much lower cost due to the multi-layered expertise of our employees.

Given the small size of our agency, small businesses get the experience of working one-on-one to the person who will be managing and developing their project to offer a custom tailored solution for their needs. Where most agencies toss a project around to several people, the multi-layered expertise of the employees offers a more cohesive final product that is more in tune with the desires of the client. This allows Spotted Whale Design to provide a unique experience in the increasingly impersonal landscape of the web and interactive industry.

What’s up with your name?

The founder of Spotted Whale Design has had a long-running love of whales. When Samantha was at The University of Texas, she attended a talk hosted by the College of Natural Sciences on the current state of whale populations since the ban on whaling. One of the presenters made the quote to the right, which struck a chord with her.

Like that first spotted whale, Samantha wanted to develop her business in a way that alleviated any uneasiness her clients had about launching a new website, changing their brand identity, or kicking off an advertising campaign. Spotted Whale Design is well aware of the stress involved in trusting another company to get your message right, so we removed the middle man and incorporated multi-layered expertise to create a better understanding of what you really want.

Additionally, the idea of a spotted whale conveys a message of uniqueness, as a spotted whale doesn’t actually exist. When choosing Spotted Whale Design as your creative solution, you can rest assured that you will get a finished product that is one-of-a-kind and true to your brand’s voice.

Who is Spotted Whale Design?

Samantha Jean Soper – Founder, Computer Goddess

Samantha is the founder of Spotted Whale Design, as well as the developer, designer, project manager, and marketer. She has ten years of experience in print and web design and web development. Her passionate, independent personality led her to start Spotted Whale Design in late 2009, after finding herself unhappy with the disconnect between clients and the employees working on their projects.

Before starting Spotted Whale Design, she worked as a designer at Bazaarvoice, the leader in social commerce technologies, and a front-end development specialist at GetPageOne, a search engine optimization and real estate website development agency in Austin, TX. She graduated from The University of Texas with Bachelor of Science in Advertising, where she designed for The Texas Travesty and had the privilege of serving as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the Introduction to Advertising class. Her education didn’t start there, though. She started developing websites and designing flyers in Photoshop in her spare time at the ripe age of 12, a hobby that grew into the business she owns today.

Away from the computer, Samantha has a passion for the outdoors, especially camping and cycling. She spends time outside of work tutoring older people on the ins and outs of computers. While she doesn’t have much traveling under her belt, she dreams of experiencing the many cultures of the world first hand. She is the proud owner of two cats, St. Pierre Stephan and Thomas K (the CEO of Sopercorp). She is also a talented artist, whose work can be seen at art.samanthajean.net.
